Infant & Family Committee

WAPC's Infant and Family Committee, with funding from the Perinatal Foundation and the Title V Block Grant, developed a resource for parents of NICU infants. The book, Baby Steps, is meant to help parents with the transition of bringing their infants home and caring for them during their first year of life. Many people on the Infant and Family Committee are responsible for the writing and design of the book. The cover, which is colorful and whimsical, features photos of several mothers and infants, including a 1995 graduate of St. Joseph’s (Milwaukee) NICU. Parent input was important to the creation of Baby Steps. The book begins with the Parent’s Bill of Rights, written by Ann Wilson, mother of Betsy Wilson, who was born at 23 weeks gestation in May of 1996.  There are sections for keeping track of the infant’s growth, recording thoughts and feelings about the experience, information about development through the first year, guidelines for treating common illnesses or symptoms, and places to record upcoming appointments.
