Wisconsin Breastfeeding Coalition
Position Statement
The Wisconsin Breastfeeding Referral Directory
is intended to provide a listing of local referral sources. The persons
listed in the directory have diverse breastfeeding expertise. The health
professional backgrounds, in particular nutritionist, nurse, and physician,
are essential in providing the needed breastfeeding promotion and support
from preconception to weaning from the breast or breast milk. It is hoped
that the compilation of breastfeeding promotion and support expertise
statewide will assist in the referral process and in the networking of
service providers.

The Wisconsin
Association for Perinatal Care supports breastfeeding as the method of
choice for infant nutrition. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises
that infants be exclusively breast fed for the first 6 months of life.
The World Health Organization has a similar recommendation in its policy
statement on infant feeding. Visit their websites to read the policy statements
in their entirety.
